Minor Peewee - Brantford Tournament: Thunder's Minor Pewee Team sponsored by Frank's Drilling and Blasting were in the Brantford tournament on the weekend. 12 teams participated in the Tournament.They were matched up against North Toronto in their first game Frdayi night . North Toronto got on the score board early in the game with 1 run scoring in the first inning. The Thunder had a good comeback as Cameron Parr, Ryan Bothwell and Mathew Brash all took walks while Mackezie Ley drove in 2 runs on a single. Ben Cross also had a single that scored a third run for the inning. With some aggressive base running and stealing Thunder would go on to score 4 runs in second inning with singles from Michael Parr, Justin Fair, Ryan Bothwell and Benn Cross. Jamie Tan contribute with a single and Michelle Samson also contribute with 2 singles. Ryan Bothwell was the starting pitcher and threw 80 pitches He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walked 2 batters and stuck outs 4 batters. Michael Parr was the relief pitcher early in the 5th inning and allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits. Final score was 11-3 for the Thunder in 5 innings. Ryan Bothwells outing on the mound was recognized as he received the Most Valuable Player of the game award.Second game of the Tournament on Saturday they faced Ancaster in the rain. Benn Cross started on the mound for the Thunder. Ancaster came out strong with 2 runs scoring in the first inning. Kingston come back to match them with a walk from Michael Parr and an RBI single from Justin Fair who also came into score that inning.. With strong pitching from Benn Cross and some good defence Thunder held Ancaster in the second and third inning. The Thunder offence continued to make some noise and scored 7 runs in the second inning. Matt Brash came in to relieve Benn Cross and also did an excellent job on the mound with 3 strike outs in 2 innings. Final score Kingston 9 - Ancaster 4. Michael Parrs' 2 singles and strong defence at 1st base was recognized as he received the Most Valuable Player of the game award.In the 3 game of our Divisional play on Saturday afternoon they faced Guelph. This time the Thunder started strong by scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning M. Parr and J. Fair crossed the plate in the first inning. Justin Fair was the starting pitcher for the Thunder in the 3rd game and he did not allow any runs against him in the first inning. The bats seem to disappear for the Thunder in the next few innings while the Guelph bats started to come alive. Guelph tied it up in the bottom of the second and went ahead in the third. Matt Brash came in for relief in the 4th inning and did not allow any runs to score. The Thunder finally made some noise again in the 5th inning. Cameron Parr and Ryan Bothwell both scored in the 5th to take the lead. The Guelph team didn't stop. They scored another run in the bottom of the fifth and 3 in the sixth. Kingston couldn't find the bats in the top of seven. Final score Guelph 7 Kingston 4. Ryan Bothwell's 2 singles and defence efforts at short stop was recognized as he received the Most Valuable Player of the Game ward.With 2 wins and a loss it was not enough to advance the Thunder to the finals. They came up short of claiming the wild card to advance.

8 in a Row!:Thunder's Midget team started the season with two tough losses to Whitby which included an extra inning loss. They also dropped a close game with the Brockville Bunnies 6-3. The team has turned things around winning the last 8 games. The streak began with the team travelling to Ajax and taking both ends of a twin bill by scores of 4-3 and 7-1. Travis Vankoughnett pitched a gem going 5 innings in the first contest and so did reliever Brandon Fair who tossed two scoreless frames to pick up the win. In game 2 Brock Cook shut the Spartans down for 6 innings and Fair threw a flawless 7th. Thunder continued it's winning ways in Whitby sweeping a double header mercying the Chiefs in both games by scores of 14-2 and 14-1. The following day at Woodbine Thunder again had the brooms handy as they swept the visiting Lindsay Lakers 6-2 and 11-6. And just this past weekend Thunder visited Peterborough and handed the Tigers a pair of losses in two close games. Thunder's Kris Grant picked up the pitching victory in game 1 with the help of Robbie Meyers who came in for the save to secure a 9-7 victory. In game two Keli Grant went 6 strong innings allowing no earned runs giving way again to Robbie Meyers to nail it down in the 7th for a 5-2 victory. Thunder's 8-3 record is good enough for first place in their midget division; the squads overall record including AABC play is now 14-7. The team travels south of the border this weekend to compete in the Josh Cavalet Memorial tournament in Philadelphia, New York. Thunder is next in action at Woodbine Park the weekend of June 19-21 when they host their own tournament which includes the Kingston Braves, North Country Athletics, Whitby Chiefs, Quinte Royals, Toronto High Park, and the Lac du St. Louis Cardinals. Thunder's first contest for the tournament is June 19 at 8:15 vs. Whitby.
